Song, by Bông, from Château Songes

This is a special edition post—in which I include tasting notes for hundreds of wines from Bordeaux’s 2020 vintage.

This post expands on information placed in two Forbes articles published earlier todayabout the silky quality of the vintage, and about how vintages have generally improved over the past few centuries.

April is the month of ‘En Primeur’ tastings in Bordeaux—when samples of wines, most of them not yet ready to be bottled and sold, are tasted to get a decent indication of the overall quality of the wine from the previous year’s vintage. Since harvest is from August to October, by the following month of April enough time has passed for the wine to have fermented, aged to some degree and settled into a groove that likely reflects its future character.

This post is a day earlier than its normal Tuesday issue because it links with the other two Forbes articles todayand provides complete tasting notes and scores for wines, not all of which I could place in the Forbes online articles due to space limitations.

Below I include tasting notes, scores and some recommended food/wine pairings for a total of over 260 wines from vintage 2020.

[A note about ‘scoring’ wines: I am not a winemaker. My ‘scores’ for wine reviews are generally not low. I do not provide any scathing/negative reviews for any wine, but instead will exclude comments related to that wine from publication. There is already more than enough negativity floating around the world of journalism.]

Thanks for tuning into this Special Edition!

The wines were tasted in April, and are organized into three main regions: Right Bank, Left Bank, and Entre-Deux-Mers/Bordeaux Supérieur and Others.
